Introduction
Academic coaching focuses on the practical and emotional demands of school: organization, motivation, planning, time management, task initiation, follow-through, studying, confidence, and the stress that can come with academic expectations.
Is This Like Cheating? Is This Like Tutoring?
This work is not tutoring, and it is most definitely not cheating. Instead of teaching specific subject content, academic coaching supports the systems around learning. We look at what is working, explore what kind of learner you are, understand what is not working, and what patterns are making school feel harder than it needs to be. I can also help support in academic advocacy, whether it's how to start the process of getting your child tested*, brainstorming accommodations, or helping you understand your child's IEP/504 plan.
Academic coaching can be especially helpful for students who are overwhelmed, avoidant, anxious, neurodivergent, burned out, perfectionistic, or struggling to turn ability into consistent output. The goal is to build strategies that match the student’s brain, life, and actual barriers, not just give another planner and hope it works.
Academic coaching may help with:
Executive functioning
Time management
Task initiation
Organization and planning
Study routines
School avoidance or overwhelm
Perfectionism and procrastination
Building confidence and accountability
This work is for students who want practical support, clearer structure, and strategies that make academic life feel more manageable.
Academic coaching is not a substitute for psychotherapy, tutoring, special education services, or formal academic accommodations.
*I do not personally do educational testing and evaluations, but I can support you in how to request this testing, or help provide you with resources for independent providers who can complete this testing if you wish to pursue an outside evaluation.
